4K smartphone screens anticipated for 2015

Samsung is going to be one of the first mobile manufacturers to produce handsets with 4K displays, according to Android Beat.
4K is the next big evolutionary step in screen resolutions, pushing well beyond 1080p HD, to deliver even more pixels per square inch than are currently available.
At the moment, a five inch 1080p smartphone screen, like the one found on the Samsung Galaxy S4, will have a pixel density of 441ppi, thanks to its 1920x1080 resolution.
With a 4K smartphone screen this will effectively double, hitting 881ppi on a comparably sized screen.
While this type of technology is not set to reach market until 2015, Samsung's plans for 2014 are just as exciting and will make the next-generation Galaxy flagship an appealing proposition.
It is thought that the Galaxy S5 could well sport a 5.2 inch screen with a 2K resolution, equating to a pixel count of 2560x1440 and a density of 560ppi.
The Super AMOLED panel will eventually be replaced by a 4K 3840x2160 model the following year, showing a natural progression for the hardware and ensuring that Samsung is encouraging people to upgrade as regularly as possible, which takes a leaf out of Apple's book.
Samsung is additionally expected to start making smartphones with 64-bit processors, echoing the capabilities found on the iPhone 5S. And, furthermore, it has revealed intentions to make fully foldable smartphones available by 2015, which could make it a big year for handset advancements.
The current crop of full HD 1080p screens available on the Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z1 and HTC One, are all impressive bits of kit that are so packed with pixels, that it is hard to distinguish the difference between each one, unless you get right up close to the surface. So the only question that remains is whether we actually need 4K in the future.
