£500 SIM free price tag attached to Dell Venue Pro

It is being rumoured that the Dell Venue Pro could be landing in the UK accompanied by a £500 price tag for the SIM free, unsubsidised version, after an online retailer started to accept pre-orders at this price point.
Expansys is the source of these rumours and while the £500 cost of the Venue Pro sounds about right when considered against the other high end smartphones, the accompanying launch date of November 8th is being perceived as a little optimistic because Dell had only given a vague pre-Christmas promise in the past.
The Dell Venue Pro runs Windows Phone 7 and while it shares the same 1GHz processor clock speed and five megapixel camera ratings of its stable mates, like the Samsung Omnia 7 and HTC HD7, it is unique for its 4.1 inch display size and slider style which houses a full portrait QWERTY keypad.
The Venue Pro is likely to appeal to business users a little more than the other Windows Phone 7 launch devices because of this keypad which has echoes of the Palm Pre and the entire BlackBerry back catalogue. Whether or not this keypad is actually user-friendly or an unnecessary addition to the phone's software keypad remains to be seen.
GPS for navigation and internal motion sensitive controls mean that the Venue Pro sticks closely to Microsoft's hardware requirements. So far, other manufacturers handling Windows Phone 7 have only been able to add minor special features to what is a deliberately locked-down, unified experience, so it will be interesting to see what Dell comes up with in its own labs.
Expect to see the Dell Venue Pro arrive SIM free for around £500 and subsidised on UK networks with a monthly contract within the next two months.
