Android 2.3 update inbound for HTC Desire

Owners of the HTC Desire smartphone will be pleased to hear that UK customers will definitely be getting a software update that will bring Android 2.3 to the popular handset, at least if you have a contract with network provider Three.
The operator used its Twitter profile to confirm that the update is on its way, although it would not get specific about a timescale for the launch.
The rest of the Desire range, which was expanded with the Desire S during MWC earlier this month, is set to support Android 2.3 and so it makes sense for the Taiwanese manufacturer and its network operator partners to extend the lifespan of the original with a similar tweak.
Android 2.3 has several benefits when compared to previous versions, including a more intelligent management of energy consumption and slicker functions to enable smooth copy and pasting, according to PhonesReview.
The HTC Desire was launched almost a year ago and it has already had one update to bring Android 2.2 to international users. Three may be cagey about Android 2.3's availability but current murmurings suggest owners may have to wait until May.
The HTC Desire still features on many lists of the top mobile phones on the market today despite tough competition and more powerful opponents gradually filtering into the market. Its popularity has allowed for resale prices to remain high, so anyone looking to sell their old HTC Desire will be likely to bag a decent price when the time comes to upgrade.
Of course with Android 2.3 on the way and specifications which enable it to remain a front runner it may seem less necessary to swap out your HTC Desire when the time comes to do so, which means you may want to sell the upgrade you are sent for an even bigger cash boost.
