Android 5.0 rumours arrive

Although Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has only been on the market for a relatively brief amount of time, rumours about the next mobile operating system from Google have already started to do the rounds.
Android 5.0 is still a few months from release, but the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google is taking the bold move of creating a selection of own-brand smartphones to support this platform, once it is revealed.
In the past, Google has been at the helm of the Nexus range, consisting of consecutively launched models which initially used HTC as the manufacturing partner for the Nexus One, but then moved on to Samsung for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.
However, it is now being stated that Google will be working with several manufacturers in order to bring five branded handsets to the market at the same time, presumably sharing the Nexus moniker.
Google has used its Nexus range in the past to showcase Android in its raw form, without any kind of supplementary interface or features that you will find on models created independently by third party manufacturers.
Google's plan is not only to launch multiple Android 5.0 mobiles at the same time, but also to take total control of the sale of the devices, using its own online portal and bypassing network providers in the process.
This does mean that anyone who wants to own an upcoming Android 5.0-toting Nexus smartphone, will need to pay for it upfront and then pair it with a SIM only deal.
However, if you have the cash available, then this does mean that you are more of a master of your own destiny, with the option to sell your mobile phone at any time and upgrade, without worrying about a fixed term contract.
