August launch rumoured for iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 could be available worldwide as soon as August, if one source close to Apple is to be believed, with rumours suggesting that the handset might be a real step up from previous generations.
A report in BGR has quoted an insider as saying that the iPhone 5 will not only be arriving in less than two months, but that it will also be blessed with an updated exterior shell that looks totally different from that of the iPhone 4.
The source is believed to be speaking from experience rather than speculation, so many are giving a great deal of credence to their words.
It was originally thought that the iPhone 5 would be delayed until September at the earliest due to supply issues caused by the Japanese earthquake. However, August is now being touted as the official launch window, which means there is not long to wait.
A redesign of the case is not an entirely surprising step for Apple, since the iPhone 4 was heavily criticised for antenna issues resulting from its use of an external antenna band. However, given that the iPhone 4 was itself a revolutionary step for the smartphone, making yet more aesthetic changes in a short period might not be something which Apple will want to do.
Expectations are running high for the iPhone 5, with many hoping that it will feature a larger display and a dual core processor. The iOS 5 platform will be a key asset in its not inconsiderable arsenal, ideally allowing Apple to make up for lost ground after months of lagging behind rivals when it comes to software functionality.
All release date rumours need to be considered with a dose of scepticism as Apple will only launch the iPhone 5 when it is good and ready, but the promise of an August arrival will certainly cheer up the fans.
