Mobile recycling company, Redeem, is a home-grown success story for the UK, expanding on its original foundations in Scotland in order to offer first, national, and eventually international services, which help make the gadget industry more sustainable.
This month, Redeem announced that it has opened offices in Dubai, enabling it to establish itself in the United Arab Emirates for the first time, with a view to eventually building up momentum across the entirety of the Middle East and North Africa, according to Mobile News.
As in the UK, Redeem’s Dubai operation will see it partnering with retailers and mobile network providers, to offer phone recycling services to customers from a range of backgrounds.
People who take advantage of the mobile recycling service now offered at more than 40 outlets across the UAE will be able to receive compensation for their old handset in the form of vouchers, which can be used in a number of outlets.
In the UK, the work done by Redeem over the past decade and a half has allowed the company to pay back in excess of £300 million to customers who have sold their old phones in order to do their bit for the environment when they upgrade. And so far, its global expansion has seen it launch a presence in 26 nations, with more growth on the cards in the coming years.
Company spokesperson, Husni El Assi, said that the experienced and established nature of Redeem as an organisation made it possible for it to foster this growing global success. He also said that as well as working with retailers and network providers, the company was keen to target businesses in the Middle East, to help them dispose of unwanted corporate devices in the future.
