Charitable competition to encourage biscuit wrapped recycling

Encouraging people to recycle is an important task that a variety of organisations are attempting at the moment.
While eco-friendly motivations may not be the best way to incentivise recycling, there are other options available, as demonstrated by a new scheme set up by McVitie's and TerraCycle.
The goal is to get more people recycling biscuit wrappers than ever before, by offering a number of prizes to the top collectors.
Between the 8th of April and the 7th of October this year, individuals and organisations are being encouraged to collect as many biscuit wrappers as possible and send them off to TerraCycle, to be turned into new products.
Once the competition period has concluded, 20 top recyclers will be chosen and endowed with a cash prize, that has to be given to their charity of choice.
The biscuit packages can be recycled and made into a variety of products, including things like waste bins and watering cans.
What makes this recycling initiative particularly interesting is that most people would not even realise that it is possible to recycle a biscuit wrapper, since in general, the focus is placed on more substantial forms of packaging.
Since the UK has a bit of a tea and biscuit fetish, it is very sensible to raise awareness about the availability of recycling facilities for all the packaging waste that this can generate.
The cash awarded to the top recyclers by McVitie's can be passed on not only to charities, but also to schools and voluntary groups. This gives a clear indication of the target audience for the scheme itself, because such organisations are well equipped to initiate recycling drives.
It is possible to register for the Biscuit Wrapper Roundup Collection Contest online, with the website also charting the top recyclers from week to week.
