Glasgow seeks state of the art recycling centre

A recycling and renewable energy centre could be set up in Glasgow, with £160 million in funding available for the project, according to BBC News.
The council is apparently close to signing a deal, which will see the centre set up to deal with the waste produced by the city, for at least 25 years.
The centre will cover a number of areas of recycling, allowing for the production of energy and an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes of waste.
Its creation will mean that 90 per cent of the rubbish which is generated in Glasgow will be able to be recycled or reused in some way, rather than sent straight to landfill. This will allow it to become a far greener city.
Scotland is working towards achieving the goals of its Zero Waste Plan and this centre in Glasgow will certainly help to further this cause, if it gets the go ahead.
If the plans are confirmed, then Viridor, the company behind the centre, will start work on it next year and bring it into operation by 2016.
Combined with a number of other recycling centres and renewable energy plants around Glasgow, it is expected that the city will be able to process 1.8 million tonnes of waste each year, in a way that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
It is good to see that the drive for green energy and proper recycling facilities is being adopted as a business opportunity in many areas, because this means securing investment is easier and the implementation of plans can occur faster, as companies look to generate revenue from sustainable activities.
Hopefully more areas of the UK will be able to rely on centres like this in the future, so that as little goes to waste as possible.
