Huawei launches budget Android smartphone

The new Huawei Ascend G300 is launching today in the UK, with a low price point of £100 being offered to those who want to pick it up on pay as you go.
Thanks to advances in hardware, you can get quite a lot of phone for your money, even when investing in less expensive models at the moment.
The G300 features a 1GHz single core processor, a four inch touchscreen display and a five megapixel camera.
Although it will ship with Android 2.3 onboard, Huawei has promised that an upgrade which introduces Android 4.0 to the G300 is going to be launched a little further down the line.
Like many companies, Huawei has added its own interface to Android in order to make the G300 feel and behave uniquely. While it is not quite going to match up to something like HTC Sense, in terms of features, the software is, nevertheless, a good starting point for anyone who wants to buy their first smartphone or replace an older Android device, without being charged over the odds.
Contract deals for the Huawei Ascend G300 will start at around £15.50 a month, with Vodafone securing exclusive rights to the handset for the first three months during which it is on sale in the UK.
It is worth pointing out that the G300 has roughly the same specifications as the Samsung Galaxy S, which launched as a class-leading handset just two years ago.
The fact that this type of technology can now be snapped up in the pay as you go market is impressive, hinting at the rate with which mobile hardware progresses and the innate flexibility of Android.
The G300 will be going head to head with rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Y in order to win over UK consumers.
