LG Optimus Big brings 4.3 inch display to the party

LG has announced the launch of the Optimus Big, a dual core Android smartphone, which will pack in a 4.3 inch display to make sure it can keep up with the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The screen of the Optimus Big is using NOVA display technology which essentially means that it will be brighter than many of its rivals.
With Android 2.2 onboard it will not quite be up there with the cutting edge 2.3 mobiles, but the dual core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor from Nvidia should make it as nippy as the Optimus 2X and the extra screen real estate will definitely be a bonus.
A five megapixel camera with HD capture and 16GB of storage space onboard go hand in hand with its HDMI output, for direct mirroring of the display and full HD playback in your living room.
Another interesting feature of the Optimus Big is Wi-Fi direct, a service which lets users link devices via Wi-Fi without using a hotspot as the middle man. This could make Bluetooth irrelevant for short range data transfers and will be just one area in which this smartphone can claim to have the upper hand over its closest rivals, at least in the short term.
The main problem with the announcement of the LG Optimus Big is that it has only been confirmed for the South Korean market, with the manufacturer not stating whether it will make it to the UK or elsewhere in the future.
The fact that its 4.3 inch screen is clearly a direct affront to the comparable display of the Galaxy S2 must surely imply that LG is gearing up for a global battle with its rival Samsung, although without official confirmation there is no way of knowing.
