LG admits to struggling in smartphone market

South Korean mobile manufacturer, LG, is not exactly a minor player in the market, but in an interview with TechRadar, company spokesperson, Won Kim, said that it was finding it tough to compete against the twin terrors of Samsung and Apple.
While Kim did point out that the dominance of LG's rivals was not going to be easy to shake, he said that with a number of new devices on the way, the company could hopefully improve its presence and get customers interested in its smartphones.
Apparently, the UK is proving a tough nut for LG to crack but Kim said that it is planning to eventually take third place behind Apple and Samsung.
In the third quarter of 2013, LG will be releasing its latest flagship smartphone, the Optimus G2, in the UK and the rest of Europe.
The company argues that what makes it different from its rivals is its willingness to ensure that there is cross-compatibility between all of its devices. Since LG makes TVs and household appliances, as well as smartphones, this points to a more connected future.
Spokesperson, Kim In Kyung, said that some of LG's closer rivals, such as Sony and HTC, have been keen to jump on the bandwagon of interconnectivity. When LG introduced the idea of building an infrared sensor into smartphones, so that they can double up as a remote control for home entertainment items, it was not long before the competition announced similar technology.
Another interesting thing mentioned by LG's representatives this week is that it may not stick with the Optimus branding for its next smartphone, which might be sensible, given that it does not have the same profile as competing ranges like the Samsung Galaxy S or all powerful Apple iPhone.
