LG plans to create bargain basement 4G smartphone

At the moment if you want to take advantage of the UK's fledgling 4G network coverage, then you will not only have to invest in a relatively costly tariff but also buy a high end handset, which is compatible with this type of service.
Along with the lack of actual areas that can receive 4G, this has meant that the rollout has been more than a little sluggish.
However, LG is looking to change all that, with images acquired by EVLeaks and PhoneArena revealing that the South Korean manufacturer is working on an entry level smartphone which is 4G ready.
Known as the Optimus F3, this device will have a dual core processor, four inch touchscreen display and the Android Jelly Bean operating system onboard.
This will be backed up by a 2460mAh battery, which should do a decent job of keeping everything powered up for a day or two, even when using 4G services.
Although there is no announcement of the price for this device, let alone official recognition that it actually exists, sources suggest that it will be sold at an affordable level.
Indeed a quick overview of its specifications, reveals that this is a mid to low end Android smartphone rather than a range-topping device, so retailers and network providers should be able to sell it and subsidise it affordably.
At the moment, only EE offers 4G in the UK, with Vodafone recently confirming that it will not be able to launch a rival service until the end of the summer this year.
This lack of competition means that prices for 4G tariffs might remain relatively steep. However, if LG's Optimus F3 lands in the next couple of months, then it could shake things up and make the service appeal to a wider audience.
