Mobile phone recycling to increase as iPhone 5 launch approaches

The unexpected delay of the fifth iPhone from its expected summer launch to early autumn has made a real impact on the market, which means many more people will be recycling their old phones in the UK later in the year to drum up the cash for Apple's latest mobile.
The iPhone 5, or 4S as it may eventually be called, has not been officially announced so potential launch dates are only speculation at this time. However, after Apple was hit with production delays relating to the Japanese earthquake most expect it to get the iPhone 5 onto the market as soon as possible.
Coinciding with its launch in September or October, analysts are predicting that UK consumers will trade in their old phones to get a bit of extra money to help cover the cost of buying the new Apple smartphone.
At the moment around 10,000 tons of old mobile phones are improperly disposed of every year across the country. Mobile phone recycling is quickly becoming the best eco-friendly and financially sensible alternative to simply sending your used handset to landfill.
Not only will the toxic components of mobile phones be damaging to the environment if they are simply left unattended but you could also be missing out on hundreds of pounds, depending on the make and model of your mobile. Even the most decrepit handsets usually have some value so recycling is definitely the savvy route to take.
After the iPhone 5 was allegedly spotted in the wild last week in San Francisco, early rumours that it would be a moderately revised incarnation of the iPhone 4 seem to be less concrete. Expect to see a surge in mobile recycling this autumn as people not only splash out on the next iPhone but also recycle unwanted handsets ahead of Christmas 2011.
