Network providers jump on mobile recycling bandwagon

Everything Everywhere has become the latest UK mobile network provider to revamp its efforts in the arena of recycling old handsets.
Working in partnership with recycling company, Regenersis, every single one of the 293 T-Mobile stores dotted across the UK will be offering visitors the chance to sell their old handset inside.
Everything Everywhere's rivals, including O2 and retailer the Carphone Warehouse, have had similarly aggressive mobile recycling projects rolled out within the last few months.
The growing popularity of mobile phone recycling and its ability to pull in new customers, who might otherwise not consider choosing a different network when they upgrade, means that the benefits for Everything Everywhere and its contemporaries are obvious.
These companies are also being put under pressure by the success of independent mobile phone recycling organisations, like Mazuma and Envirofone.
As well as allowing customers to sell their old phones in store, the website for Everything Everywhere's T-Mobile brand will offer similar functionality for online customers.
A statement from the provider pointed out that it would be regularly analysing the mobile recycling market, in order to ensure that the prices it provides for old models are competitive.
Industry analyst, Ben Wood, said that because consumers are being made aware of the residual value contained within their outgoing handsets, network providers are having to try hard to win them over with in-house recycling offers, when the time comes to upgrade.
More competition in the market can only be good news for consumers, although it seems that taking the in store recycling route is perhaps something that should be avoided. Instead, taking your time and removing any sales pressure from the occasion by comparing prices for old phones online, will be a better way of going about this activity.
