New Xperia smartphones hit with delays

Anyone thinking of selling their mobile phone to get their hands on the upcoming influx of Xperia brand smartphones from Sony Ericsson might want to invest their cash payment in another model, since news of serious delays to upcoming handsets has hit the headlines.
The Xperia Neo is the worst affected, with its original April launch date now pushed back by three months to July, according to Clove.
Although the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play are already available in the UK, there is some concern that stocks will dwindle in the coming weeks with no sign of new shipments on the way any time soon.
The reason for this disruption is the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster which befell Japan last month and are continuing to cause many issues with the major electronics manufacturing firms which operate in and around the worst affected areas.
Sony Ericsson is thought to be searching for ways around the current supply shortages, although it is unlikely to be able to launch the Xperia Neo or refresh the stocks of current best sellers, until some point in July, insiders believe.
The long and the short of the news is that people who are interested in trading in their old mobile in order to nab the Xperia Play or Arc, will need to get it done sooner rather than later. Those who had been holding off until the cheaper Neo arrives will have a longer wait on their hands, unless they switch allegiances when the time comes to upgrade.
Sony Ericsson has a promising line-up of Android 2.3-based mobiles on the market and on the horizon, it is just a pity that its good work has been hampered by events far beyond its control. Competitors are also being affected, with the iPhone 5 thought to be suffering from similar delay issues.
