New site supports mobile recycling schemes within schools

Children are regularly encouraged to think of new ways to help raise money for their school funds, but a new website has come to light which should make it easier for money to be generated through the recycling of old mobile phones and used printer cartridges.
Support Your School.co.uk is the eco-friendly fundraising initiative which any school in the country can harness if they want to get some much needed cash.
A variety of schools are already registered, including Mayflower Community School near Plymouth. Each printer cartridge which is collected will net the equivalent of £1, while recycling old mobile phones can make anywhere up to £150 a pop, so there is plenty of opportunity for schools to rake in some serious money.
Kids at participating schools are sent home with a purpose made bag into which they can replace the cartridges and old mobiles which they want to recycle. These are then sent off to be reused or broken down for parts and the schools get the funding they deserve.
According to statistics, UK consumers buy about a million and a half printer cartridges each day. Only 10 per cent of these are recycled, which means most simply end up in landfill sites.
A similarly significant number of mobile phones are either dumped or left unused at home, so it seems likely that most school children across the country will be able to root around and find something to recycle. As long as they ask their parents' permission and make sure that all of the personal information is deleted from the handsets before they recycle them, then there should be no reason to prevent schools participating in this type of scheme.
Schools can visit the fund raising site now to get more information on how to organise their recycling drive.
