Next iPhone snapped out and about

Pictures of what many believe is the next iPhone handset have appeared online after it was seen being used on public transport in the US.
The iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, depending on what Apple chooses to name the smartphone, is likely to be announced in September and so seeing an industry insider out and about with the finished product is not surprising.
Pictures taken on a train in San Francisco and acquired by 9to5 Mac show someone using what is clearly an Apple device and one which does not look similar to any previous generation of the iPhone, leading to many rumours that this is indeed the fifth iteration of this product family.
The phone spotted in the wild was apparently thinner than the current iPhone 4 but roughly the same size. Apple has apparently squeezed a larger screen into the device, which is something fans were clamouring for given the space of four inch plus rivals roving around and winning customers.
In terms of design it seems that Apple has returned to the curved backplate style found on the first three iPhones, ditching the flat glass rear of the iPhone 4. Another interesting point is that there was apparently no home button, which might suggest Apple has gone for a full touch interface, ditching physical buttons altogether.
Of course at this point there is no guarantee that the device was the real deal, as only the Apple logo on the rear was able to identify it.
However, with the reported launch and release windows approaching and the California coastline rife with Apple employees, it is not impossible that one might accidentally use the fifth iPhone in plain sight of the general public a few weeks before its official unveiling is allowed to take place.
