Nokia N8 UK launch date revealed

Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia has confirmed that the N8 will be getting a staggered UK launch date, with its sim free release occurring direct from Nokia's official online store on the 15th of October, followed by a full national release on the 22nd.
All of the major networks and most resellers will be offering the Nokia N8 upon its launch. Its arrival is seen as a landmark in Nokia's history because it comes at a point in time when this dominant force in the mobile world is struggling to hold onto its position as the number one smartphone manufacturer in the face of stiff competition from newcomers.
The sim free version of the Nokia N8 is selling for around £430 and previews have suggested that the premium quality materials used in its construction mean that it will hold onto its resale value and resist damage better than its plastic rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S.
The N8's 12 megapixel camera is another party piece. While impressive still photography should be possible, as detailed in a recent Nokia stop-motion viral ad, the 720p video capture capabilities are also impressive and in line with the functions of both the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S. Onboard editing software to help users create unique videos straight out of the box is another modern twist.
While the hardware of the N8 is impressive, most fans and observers are more interested in how the brand new Symbian 3 operating system will fare in a market that has evolved significantly since Nokia began using Symbian many years ago.
Nokia has been working hard to update its Ovi Store download platform with the latest Symbian 3-compatible apps and content, but until the N8 is actually out and in the hands of average users, it will be difficult to judge just how successful it will eventually become.
