Nokia N9 specs and video emerge

The upcoming Nokia N9 is finally getting its time in the spotlight thanks to a number of details appearing online and a short advert for the smartphone making it onto YouTube.
The Nokia N9 has been in development and subject to speculation since last year but its protracted launch had some concerned that it would never see the light of day, particularly since the manufacturer is now shacked up with Microsoft and Windows Phone 7.
The N9 is set to be based on the Meego mobile operating system, which Nokia created in partnership with chip manufacturer Intel. This week, an Intel spokesperson said that the firm had been held back by Meego and Nokia, which suggests that the N9 could be the one and only smartphone to ever be launched with this software onboard.
Featuring a full QWERTY keypad which slides out from beneath the large touchscreen display, the N9 has the right kind of credentials to at least fit in with the rest of its rivals, if not actually stand out from the crowd.
On the official Meego Facebook page, a teaser video advertising the N9 was posted, revealing that it will sport a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, which should give it similar photographic prowess to the N8.
A look at the Meego interface is provided by the video and observers have noted that it is not that different from the current generation Symbian platform, albeit a little bit slicker. Nokia has been criticised for its slow adoption of modern interface styles and so it might once more receive media complaints if the N9 is not deemed to be a step in the right direction.
The Nokia N9 does not yet have a UK release date but with the marketing hype machine finally getting into action it cannot be far from launch.
