Nokia reveals new Lumia smartphones

The first two Windows Phone 8 devices to officially appear in front of the press have gone on show courtesy of Finnish mobile manufacturer, Nokia.
The first is known as the Lumia 920 and it certainly packs in enough hardware features to do a decent job of introducing the world to Microsoft's new mobile operating system.
The second is the Lumia 820, which will be a more affordable sibling to Nokia's flagship device and launch alongside it this autumn.
Chief among the Lumia 920's list of components is a 4.5 inch touchscreen display, with a WXGA resolution, which basically means it has 1280x768 pixels to help it give HD Android phones a run for their money.
It also has a 1.5GHz processor and an eight megapixel camera, branded with the PureView moniker, which will give it the edge over its rivals when it comes to photographic quality.
The Lumia 820 is equipped with a 4.3 inch touchscreen display and the same 1.5GHz dual core processor. There is also an eight megapixel camera here, although the PureView branding is notably absent.
Both of these devices follow on from their predecessors in terms of design, with plenty of premium materials on show, to make sure that they stand out and offer decent durability. The Lumia 920 even has a curved touchscreen display, which means it should be easy to hold and use.
Early reports suggest that both phones can blitz through Windows Phone 8 with ease, showing no signs of lag or slowdown. You would expect this, in part because Microsoft has optimised the software so well, but also because these handsets have dual core processors and 1GB of RAM each.
Expect to see both models on sale before the end of the year, which should make the festive season quite a battleground for mobile manufacturers.
