Packaging recycling to be improved thanks to new innovation

A new carton design from industry giant, Tetra Pak, has been revealed this month, with the fresh approach making it easier for consumers to recycle the packaging used on a wide variety of products.
The Tetra Top technology is simple enough, and essentially means that the top of any carton which uses it can be easily removed, separating the plastic lid from the cardboard sleeve, according to Packaging Europe.
The benefit of this is that rather than having to process these two different materials together, which can be a labour-intensive task, they can instead be recycled separately wherever schemes and facilities exist in the UK and across the world.
Tetra Pak spokesperson, Charles Brand, explained that this innovation has been created in part as a result of demand from consumers for more sustainable and easy to recycle packaging.
Plenty of brands and retailers have been working to reduce the amount of packaging which is included with products. This is especially important when it comes to food and other perishable goods, which have traditionally been swaddled in a lot of unrecyclable material.
A number of food manufacturers have already announced that they are adopting the Tetra Top system for their product lines, including producers in Sweden and Denmark.
Over three quarters of the people questioned in a recent study regarding this new form of packaging said that with the separable top, they would be more likely to increase the regularity with which they recycle packaging, which means that it could achieve its goals with ease.
Ideally, the majority of firms currently using Tetra Pak?s carton designs will move over to the new removable top system, so that consumers do not have to limit their buying choices when they head to the supermarket.
