Phone app to control eco-friendly lighting solution

Electronics firm, Philips, has created a new light bulb which is not only energy efficient and environmentally friendly, but also compatible with an iPhone app, which allows users to control it remotely.
The Philips Hue app has recently been added to Apple's App Store, so those who want to take advantage of its energy saving potential will need to download it and also pick up the bulbs from a retailer.
The app lets you not only adjust the brightness of the bulbs, but also means that you can adjust the colour of the light that they are beaming out onto your home.
One of the added benefits of being able to control the lights when you are out and about, is that you can deter burglars and of course save energy by switching them off.
Philips believes that the bulbs are about 20 per cent more energy efficient than typical eco-friendly bulbs, which means that there is an opportunity to make a real difference to your electricity bill and carbon footprint, if you adopt them.
At the moment, the use of the bulbs in conjunction with the control kit is not particularly cheap, since it will cost you 179 to get it set up in your home, on top of a 49 cost for each additional bulb.
However, for many people, this will be a price worth paying and will make even more sense if you are already having some kind of decorating work done at home.
Hopefully, as technology gets smarter, it will be possible to control more aspects of the home from smartphone applications.
Most people try to do their bit for the environment, whether it is by recycling old mobile phones or turning appliances off standby when not in use.
