Quad core HTC handset rumoured

A smartphone from HTC with a quad core processor is apparently in the works ahead of a 2012 launch, according to leaked images acquired by PocketNow.
Dual core smartphones have only been on the UK market since the spring of this year, but a new mobile called the HTC edge, which features an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with four physical cores running at 1.5GHz apiece, is being developed in Taiwan.
Along with the quad core 1.5GHz processor, the HTC Edge will allegedly have a 4.7 inch display with a high definition resolution, 1GB of RAM and the obligatory digital camera with an eight megapixel sensor.
The Mobile World Conference 2012 is set to be held in February and it is thought that companies like HTC will be pulling back the curtains on the front running quad core smartphones during this event, so it's not long before official details are known.
Android 4.0 is almost certainly going to be the operating system used by the HTC Edge because there are few alternatives which would make full use of the Tegra 3 chip and its over the top specifications.
Of course there are some who would argue that quad core processing is not entirely necessary, since dual core chips have yet to be harnessed to their full potential. However, the ever changing world of mobile technology requires this relentless forward momentum to stay relevant and ensure that people keep upgrading.
One thing which the HTC Edge will be able to offer is far greater visual quality and overall complexity when it comes to gaming, an area in which Android still lags behind Apple's iOS as a result of platform fragmentation in the face of Apple's consistent, coherent product family. This could become an important facet in the coming months.
