RIM publishes first footage of BlackBerry Bold Touch

A touch-friendly version of the BlackBerry Bold has been all but confirmed by Canadian mobile manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), which showcased the handset in a video posted online.
The videos were leaked from within RIM but appear to be genuine as they act as instructions on how to use some of the basic features of this as yet unannounced BlackBerry smartphone.
The Bold range has been particularly popular over the years and now RIM is bringing it in line with its rivals and the BlackBerry Torch, by adding a capacitive touchscreen into the mix. This is combined with an optical track pad for scrolling, although proper software tweaks should largely render this surplus to requirements.
The BlackBerry Bold Touch looks like it will still pack a fully physical QWERTY keypad fixed on the front of the device, not hidden by a slider mechanism as is the case with the Torch. This will allow fans both old and new to enjoy modern interactivity, alongside the reassuring nature of a physical keypad.
A second video, published alongside the first by leaks site Crackberry, shows that RIM is working on another touchscreen device which observers believe to be codenamed Monaco.
This second device is completely devoid of a physical keypad, which means it is only comparable to the BlackBerry Storm range, which received a less than favourable response when the first two handsets were launched.
RIM is in a better position to create truly competitive touchscreen-only handsets than before because it will presumably have learnt from its mistakes. Of course it may still have its work cut out in convincing long time BlackBerry users that ditching the keypad in favour of a touch-only environment is a beneficial move rather than a step to the side.
