Recycling donations help fund air ambulance service

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) has been receiving a large number of donations in recent weeks, to help raise some money to fund its vital work, according to the Darlington & Stockton Times.
What makes this particular charity drive interesting is that the majority of donations have come from offices where old toner cartridges, used mobile phones and a number of other electronic items have been collected and handed over to this good cause.
A number of different organisations have been using the power of recycling to raise cash for GNAAS, including Middlesbrough College, which has managed to generate ?500 in 2013 just by getting rid of its old toner cartridges and mobiles in an environmentally sustainable manner.
GNAAS spokesperson, Mandy Drake, explained that the donations of old electronics were extremely valuable to the organisation, since they helped to make life-saving missions enacted by the air ambulance workers possible.
Ms Drake also pointed out that the process of donating recyclable electronics was relatively easy for businesses and other groups, as well as being a greener way of disposing of otherwise tricky items.
She said that new business partnerships would be formed in the future to make sure that even more donations are made to the charity, while the organisations involved will be able to benefit in their own way.
The GNAAS not only recycles old mobile phones and printer cartridges for cash, but also makes it possible for businesses to recycle old textiles and even send in documents to be securely shredded and then pulped, to be reused all over again.
Consumers can take advantage of mobile phone recycling, either to make a donation to charity or to use the cash to put towards their next purchase of a smart phone.
