Recycling industry to stimulate job market

A new report from the Green Alliance has estimate that up to 200,000 new jobs could be created, thanks to the growth of the recycling industry over the course of the next 15 years, according to the Guardian.
A string of emerging businesses are being established at the moment to cope with the increasing demand for recycling facilities. And as a result, there will be more jobs available in the UK, particularly in regions where there are high levels of unemployment.
Report spokesperson, Matthew Spencer, explained that the recycling industry was resulting in a reconfiguration of the economy, with the manufacture of new goods now relying more on the reuse and reconstitution of existing materials.
Businesses are even able to adopt circular models of operation within which recycling plays a key part and the prospect of sending items to landfill is no longer acceptable.
Although there are fears over how the job market will cope with emerging technologies, the report suggests that the recycling industry will become a major employer, which can help to cope with increased automation in other sectors.
There are critics who claim that a shift towards recycling will mean that basic goods end up increasing in price to the point that households with lower incomes will be unable to afford them, although this has yet to be proven.
With more and more people recycling their old mobile phones and selling unwanted electronics online, there is certainly a more significant flow of outdated tech that requires a workforce to collect, dismantle and sell it on.
Experts argue that the recycling industry can create low and mid tier jobs at a time when many positions of this kind are being eliminated. So with over 200,000 new positions by 2030, the recycling industry will account for a total drop in unemployment of 54,000.
