Samsung Galaxy S3 outed

A leaked presentation slide indicates that Samsung is working on a new Android smartphone called the Galaxy S3, as a follow up to this year's best selling S2 handset.
According to the image acquired by Phandroid, the Galaxy S3 will have a 1.8GHz dual core processor and a 4.6 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, with a high definition resolution as standard.
2GB of RAM and a 12 megapixel camera are also on the cards for the next Samsung superphone, indicating just how far the company has come over the past couple of years.
The single core 1GHz processor and four inch display of the original Galaxy S were welcome, although many thought that its looks aped the iPhone too closely. The S3 seems to step out of Apple's shadow, with a curved design bookending a very thin chassis, which is, allegedly, slimmer than the current Galaxy S2 model.
Samsung is partnering with Google to launch the Nexus Prime smartphone this month, although following the death of Apple founder, Steve Jobs, the firms decided to hold off on the unveiling in order to pay their respects.
Even the Nexus Prime is likely to look a little weedy in comparison with the Galaxy S3, whose reported 1.8GHz dual core chip will be the cream of the crop when it arrives at some point in 2012.
All of this power will be put to work on the upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform, which will also be a core feature of the Nexus Prime. However, when Samsung stamps its own brand on smartphones it will certainly tinker with Android via the inclusion of the TouchWiz user interface.
As smartphone hardware continues to push the boundaries of power and performance at the top end, there is no doubt that Samsung has the market cornered with the Galaxy S3.
