Samsung reveals Galaxy S4 Active and confirms impending UK launch

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be getting a sturdy sibling this summer in the form of the Galaxy S4 Active, which was revealed earlier this week.
There had been rumours and leaks surrounding this smartphone for some time, but Samsung gave official confirmation of its existence and even detailed a few of its specifications.
On the surface, it seems that there is little difference between the original S4 and this Active iteration. It features the same quad core 1.9GHz processor and 2GB RAM combo, that makes its stable mate so powerful, along with that impressive full HD five inch display dominating the front.
The main hardware difference is that the S4 Active only has an eight megapixel camera, which is a little less impressive than the 13 megapixel unit of the standard S4.
However, the headline-grabbing asset of the Galaxy S4 Active is its ability to resist water and dust, thanks to an IP67 durability rating.
Basically, if you accidentally drop this phone in a puddle or even fling it into a swimming pool, it will still work perfectly well when you retrieve it. The same cannot be said for the original S4.
This puts the Galaxy S4 Active in the same league as the Sony Xperia Z, which is also water and dust resistant.
Neither of these phones is considered to be completely waterproof, meaning you should not attempt to keep them in the drink for hours on end. But a bit more physical resilience will be welcomed by users who have experienced the horror of getting their precious smartphone wet and having to fork out for repair or replacement as a result.
You should also be able to keep the Galaxy S4 Active in good condition, so that it fetches a better price when you sell it at the end of the contract.
