Smartphone turnover makes mobile recycling increasingly important

People in the UK are upgrading their mobiles more regularly today than ever before, which means that it is vital for consumers to be made aware of the phone recycling facilities that are available to them.
Smartphone manufacturer, HTC, revealed that the average user would keep a mobile phone for three years back in 2007. In 2013, that usage time has dipped to just six months, which suggests that most people have become infatuated with the upgrade culture that pervades our society.
Consumers are encouraged to upgrade their phones regularly because there are simply so many new devices hitting the market.
Coupled with the accelerated enhancements made to smartphone hardware and software, this renders handsets obsolete much faster than in the past.
Meanwhile, network providers are actually creating price plans that promote a quick turnover of portable devices, so that upgrades come at the rate demanded by modern mobile users.
Of course, with all these smartphones being purchased on an almost bi-annual basis in some instances, it makes sense for consumers to sell their old handsets sooner rather than later.
The benefit of buying a smartphone and then selling it in under a year is that many models will have retained a lot of their initial value.
This can then be put towards your next purchase, while the handset itself can be recycled if necessary, or better still, refurbished and sold on to someone else.
Recycling mobile phones is most eco-friendly and efficient when handsets are resold, because this minimises the carbon footprint of the whole process.
However, even smartphones that have been damaged still have a value and can be recycled, which means you should never simply throw them in the bin or leave them gathering dust in a drawer somewhere at home.
