Customers across Europe who are concerned about the sustainability and ethicality of their smartphone ownership will soon be able to get their hands on a new device, which lets them get all the modern functionality they require, while leaving their consciences intact.
The Fairphone 2 is the follow-up to an earlier smart device, which was built to avoid many of the pitfalls associated with other portable devices. That means it will be built using safe, sustainable materials and methods, by staff in factories that are paid and treated fairly.
In addition to its morally sound manufacturing methods, the company behind the Fairphone 2 has also taken into account the life cycle of the device, making sure that it can be repaired and recycled easily.
Disassembling the handset is much easier than with any other smartphone, meaning that whatever work needs to be done, it need not be overly complicated or intrusive, according to Recombu.
People who are interested in buying this device need not worry about having to make compromises on performance or features, as the Fairphone 2 comes with a solid selection of hardware under the bonnet.
Upfront, it boasts a large five inch display with a full HD resolution, while the Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM deliver plenty of power for running apps. Storage comes in the form of 32GB standard space, along with a microSD card slot for expansion.
Photo fans can capture images and record video using the primary 8 megapixel camera, while a 2 megapixel front-facing snapper will serve for video calls and selfies.
This Android-based device also benefits from a pair of SIM slots, for added calling convenience. And with an anticipated UK price point of around £400, it is competitively positioned to give environmentally conscious consumers an appealing alternative to dubious devices like the iPhone.
