Swindon residents to get door to door mobile phone recycling

People who live in Swindon will be interested to hear that the local council is rolling out a new recycling scheme, which will allow them to get rid of their old mobile phones and other unwanted electronics without having to leave the comfort of their homes.
In an update to its existing recycling scheme, the council is now offering doorstep collections for mobile phones and a variety of other common items, such as batteries and even Tetra pack containers, according to a report from Mazuma Mobile.
At the moment, about 50 per cent of all waste produced in Swindon is recycled, which is certainly a decent amount. However, the council is hoping to improve this significantly and reach 60 per cent as soon as possible.
It is thought that the new mobile phone recycling scheme will be in place by December, which will make it just in time for the Christmas rush, when many people will be getting new handsets and looking for a way to safely and sustainably dispose of their old devices.
Each year, Swindon council could save £850,000 in costs, if it is able to increase local recycling rates to 50 per cent, which means that taxpayers will definitely benefit if they choose to part ways with unwanted devices in an ethical manner.
Of course anyone in the UK can recycle their mobile phone online and compare the prices offered them by the top recycling companies, in order to squeeze some money out of a phone that they no longer need.
The council will not be paying people to take the phones off their hands, so while it is convenient for some people to take this route, others might be better off if they recycle it via a reseller.
