UK launch for HTC Gratia confirmed

HTC has said that it will be bringing its freshly announced Gratia smartphone to the UK and the rest of its European partners at some point in the coming months.
The Gratia is yet another HTC handset that is going to support Android, but this time it will come ready to rock with version 2.2 of Google's operating system installed. This will be skinned with HTC's obligatory Sense user interface, which will add plenty of widgets, social networking support and clever homescreen implementation.
HTC has not given any information on the intended price point at which the Gratia will sit, but with a five megapixel camera and a modest screen size, most are expecting it to land in the middle of the market, making it yet another affordable Android phone.
HTC's Florian Seiche, said that while some European countries will be getting the Gratia next month, the UK will have to wait until the first quarter of 2011, which is a worryingly vague window for launch that could leave UK consumers out in the cold. However, given that HTC's library of well priced Android phones is already comprehensive, the Gratia will only be mildly missed.
The Gratia looks to be the natural successor to the HTC Wildfire, which is in many ways a trimmed-down version of the high end HTC Desire. This could mean that when the Gratia launches the Wildfire will become less attractive, as its Android 2.1 platform will be outclassed by the Gratia's 2.2.
Mr Seiche was keen to focus on the customisation tools offered by HTC Sense. Customers in the US have already been able to experience the Gratia, where it is branded as the HTC Aria. Given the Taiwanese manufacturer's track record in making very capable Android smartphones, it could have another hit on its hands.
