Windows Phone 7 handsets arrive in UK, early verdicts in

Microsoft has unleashed its Windows Phone 7 platform this week, with manufacturers including HTC and Samsung joining the fray early, with a range of impressive handsets. It is now down to the consumer and the media to decide whether or not to support this fledgling mobile OS.
HTC is the most prolific entrant in the early days, with the Mozart and HD7 setting various technical benchmarks in their own way. The Mozart is the most capable snapper of the first round of Windows Phone 7 mobiles, its eight megapixel camera outclassing the standard five megapixel options bolted onto its rivals.
The HD7 has a 4.3 inch screen which is a shade larger than any of the other early contenders and it also features a kick stand, which emphasises the focus on movie and video watching which will doubtlessly become a major function thanks to its large screen.
Arguably Samsung has taken the title of the best Windows Phone 7 handset in the first days since its launch with the Omnia 7. There are a number of reasons for this and it has already won praise from most media outlets.
The Omnia 7 is wooing professional reviewers with its four inch Super AMOLED display, which completely outshines any of the other Windows Phone 7 crew. It is identical to that seen on the Android-based Samsung Galaxy S, which might leave some in a conundrum over which to choose, but the Omnia 7 has a few tricks up its sleeve.
The build quality and materials used in the Omnia 7 are more industrial and metallic than the largely plastic Galaxy S. It also does not look like it wants to be mistaken for an iPhone 3G S, due in part to its design, but also because of the refreshing look of the Windows Phone 7 interface.
In these first days, judging Microsoft's OS is difficult and only time will deem it successful.
