World Environment Day approaches

On June the 5th it will be World Environment Day, which is an event organised to raise awareness about the fragility of our planet's ecosystems and the ways that people can help to reduce the impact of humanity upon them.
Various organisations are going to mark the occasion in different ways, with network provider, Teltra, looking to its customers to see if it can get more people to recycle their old mobile phones.
Telstra spokesperson, Tim O'Leary, said that in Australia alone there are an estimated 22 million old mobile phones that are sitting in drawers or left in lofts, all of which can be recycled either through refurbishment for resale or by proper disposal, with the precious materials reused in the production of new devices.
Australians who recycle their old mobile phones with Telstra throughout the entirety of June will be doing their bit to care for the environment in more ways than one, as the company has promised to donate $1AUS per handset to charity.
People outside of Australia have plenty of ways to get involved with World Environment Day, as here in the UK there are many different companies that offer mobile phone recycling.
If you choose, you can often donate the value of your unwanted old handset to charity, or keep the cash yourself and give it to whichever cause you wish.
Even if you do not pass on the money to a good cause, you will still be doing your bit for the environment, because it means your old phone will not simply end up in a landfill site or stuck in your house, but will be properly reconstituted, so that it is useful once more. World Environment Day may only last 24 hours, but hopefully its message will have an impact that helps people to make changes for a whole year.
