eBay nets more money, but mobile recyclers offer greater convenience

A new report from consumer group Which? has looked at the amount of money you can receive when you sell your old mobile phone online, considering both auction site, eBay, and major recycling firms, Mazuma and Envirofone.
The intention was to work out whether you are better off selling your phone yourself via an auction, or simply sending it to a recycling company and letting them deal with everything.
Analysts concluded that while you may get more money if you list your old handset on eBay, it is much simpler to pass it on to a dedicated recycling organisation and let them take care of the heavy lifting.
Those who decide to sell via eBay will need to take into account that the price which your auctioned item achieves is not representative of the total amount you will receive, as you will need to pay fees for using the site, based on the value of the product you sell.
eBay sellers will also be responsible for other costs, such as postage and packaging, although this can be passed onto the buyer. However, you will still need to actually arrange shipment and deal with another person, to make sure that everything goes smoothly, which is never guaranteed.
The good thing about using a mobile phone recycling service is that you can simply pop your handset in the post and not worry about rooting around for the accessories or the original box. It will then be valued and you can decide whether or not you want to accept the offer.
The mobile recycling market is competitive so different companies are compelled to offer good prices for your unwanted phones, which is why you should also compare them online, to get the best deal.
